MANCELONA ANDRESS

The community of Mancelona received its name from the first settler of the town, Perry Andress, who named it after his daughter.  Mancelona Andress is buried in the Mancelona cemetery.  She was born March 28, 1865 in Missouri. She came to the Mancelona area in 1869, when she was four years old.

PERRY ANDRESS

Perry Andress was the first settler in Mancelona. He built the Mountain House in 1868. The first election was held on the first Monday in April, 1871 at the home of Mr. Perry Andress.  It was in 1869, four years after the Civil War when Perry Andress homesteaded in Mancelona that was named after his young daughter.
