EVENTS IN MANCELONA

Mancelona is home to numerous annual events incuding White Pine Stampede, Special Olympics Winter Games at Schuss Village, Easter Egg hunt for children, kids trout fishing day, Memorial Day parade, Mancelona Bass Festival, M-88 Outdoor Market Tour, summer celebration outdoor concerts, farmers market, community Halloween party, Mancelona Buck Pole, Community Craft Fair, holiday light parade, visits with Santa, snowmobile drag race and SnoX events, HARE scrambles,  spaghetti dinner and auction, and mud/sand races.  Five outdoor concerts are planned for the summer of 2023.

ACHIEVEMENTS

In recent years, among many accomplishments, Mancelona has received MSHDA neighborhood enhancement grants, exterior housing improvement grants using local contractors, completed the village office facade, increased housing  apartments in the downtown district, replaced trash receptacles throughout downtown, improved the tennis and pickleball courts at Palmer Park, replaced picnic tables and benches, and received grants to extent the sewer system. 

FURNACEVILLE

In 1882, an organization by the name of "John Otis & Company" built a large charcoal furnace just south of Mancelona. The company also platted a town around the furnace, naming it "Furnaceville". Soon after, the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad built a station here. The furnace flourished, and in 1886 a group of businessmen from Grand Rapids bought out the company, and renamed the company Antrim Iron Works and the town Antrim. Today, Antrim is still a small subdivision  on the south side of Mancelona, and one of the street names is Otis.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.00 square miles, all of which is land.^[6] The village is located at 44°54′08″N 85°03′39″W.
